Dear Participants As the Conference Chair, it is my pleasure to invite you to attend the First Conference on ELT in the Islamic World. The objective of this conference is to enhance the understanding of ELT and the use of ELT theories in L2 classes by practitioners and further develop its relationship with other disciplines such as discourse analysis, interlanguage pragmatics, and sociolinguistics. The primary focus of this conference will be on closing the gap between vision and reality of ELT in the Islamic countries so that the full benefits of sharing experiences and exchanging ideas about main ELT-related issues in the Islamic World are realized. The program offers many opportunities to learn how practitioners, researchers, and institutes from many Islamic countries are approaching language teaching in the 21st century. You will also learn about the latest research carried out by Iranian ELT researchers. Speakers from the ELT arena will present and discuss the latest topics in contemporary and prospective ELT issues, focusing on language teacher education, discourse analysis, interlanguage pragmatics, language assessment, etc. The poster sessions are designed to facilitate your interaction with other presenters. We have a line-up of prominent keynote speakers (in alphabetical order): 1. Douglas, Dan (Iowa State University) 2. Farhady, Hossein (American University of Armenia) 3.
